How to Spend 3 Days in Langkawi: Ultimate Travel Guide

Travelling to Malaysia had been on my travel list for a very long time. I had always been fascinated by its tropical islands, beautiful beaches, diverse food, and the unique blend of cultures.
One of the reasons Malaysia felt like an easy international destination for me was the relatively hassle-free entry process for Indian travellers. At the time of my trip, Indian citizens could travel to Malaysia visa-free for up to 30 days, which made planning the trip even easier.
I had a few places on my Malaysia itinerary, and Langkawi was right at the top of my list.
For my entire journey, I booked my flights with Malaysia Airlines. My journey began from Delhi with a late-night flight at 11 PM. The flight landed in Kuala Lumpur at around 6:55 AM Malaysia time. After a layover of about an hour and a half, I boarded my connecting flight at 8:20 AM.
About an hour later, I finally landed in Langkawi.
There was something special about arriving at a destination that had been on my bucket list for so long. I was finally here!
My first impression of Langkawi was exactly what I had hoped for.

Day 1: First Impressions of Langkawi, Cenang Beach & Kuah Night Market
Serene. Green. Peaceful.
After the hustle and bustle of Delhi and the long journey, Langkawi felt like a completely different world.
Staying at Gemalai Village
For my stay, I had booked Gemalai Village, a beautiful hut-style property that instantly made me feel like I had stepped into a traditional Malaysian village.
The accommodation consisted of individual chalets, with both single- and double-storey options. I had booked a double-storey chalet.

The lower level had a small seating area where you could sit, relax or even have a meal, while the bedroom was located upstairs.
I absolutely loved the concept.
There was something incredibly charming about staying in a little wooden chalet surrounded by greenery rather than a conventional hotel room. The surroundings were peaceful, and the whole experience felt much closer to nature.
I had chosen to stay around the Cenang Beach area, which turned out to be a great decision. Cenang is one of the liveliest parts of Langkawi, with restaurants, cafés, shops, beachside shacks and plenty of activities.
The beach was roughly a 10-minute distance from my hotel, and getting around was fairly convenient, including using taxis and app-based transportation.
Finally, Cenang Beach!
After checking in and settling down, I was hungry and decided to grab something to eat at a roadside restaurant.
The meal cost me only around RM13, which felt quite reasonable.

With my stomach happy and my excitement building, I finally headed towards Cenang Beach.
And there it was!
The beach I had imagined for so long was finally in front of me.
Cenang Beach is one of the places to experience Langkawi’s lively side. You can find various water activities here, along with beachside restaurants and cafés.
I spent some time taking in the surroundings before deciding to explore another part of Langkawi.
Exploring Kuah and the Eagle Point
Langkawi is closely associated with the eagle, and you will see references to the bird all around the island.

After spending some time around Cenang, I took a taxi towards Kuah, which was about 30 minutes away.
One of the things I particularly wanted to experience was the famous eagle landmark in the Kuah area.
The enormous eagle statue is one of Langkawi’s most recognisable sights and makes for a great photo stop.
Kuah Night Market
Since it was a Friday, I also had the opportunity to visit the Kuah Night Market, and this turned out to be one of my favourite experiences of the day.
If you are visiting Langkawi, I would definitely recommend checking out a local night market if one happens to coincide with your itinerary.
The variety of food was incredible.
There were stalls selling everything from local delicacies to snacks, desserts and drinks. There were also clothes and other everyday items being sold.
There were simply too many choices!
Ironically, the sheer variety left me so confused that I almost lost my appetite.
Eventually, I settled for some chicken satay and dimsums.
By then, it was already late, and I had another 30-minute journey back to the hotel.
It had been a long first day, but a memorable one.
Langkawi had already started winning me over.
Day 2: Island Hopping, Cable Cars & Langkawi Sky Bridge
Day two began early.
The sound of birds chirping around my chalet was my natural alarm clock, and waking up surrounded by nature was such a refreshing experience.
I had booked an island-hopping tour for the day.
Since breakfast wasn’t included with my hotel booking, I planned to eat at one of the restaurants outside the property before heading out.
Island Hopping in Langkawi
The tour operator picked me up from the hotel and took me to the boat departure point.
It was a shared boat, so I was travelling with other tourists. Once we started sailing, the beauty of Langkawi really came alive.
The water was incredibly clear, and the surrounding islands looked beautiful. We reached our first island in about 20 minutes.

In the island, I met a group of women from Kuala Lumpur. We started chatting, took a dip in the water and became so engrossed in the conversation that I completely lost track of time.

And then came the funny part of my day.
I somehow misunderstood the arrangement and thought the ladies were part of my boat.
They weren’t!
By the time I realised what had happened, my boat had already left.
I had missed my boat! Yes, you heard me correctly. And strangely enough, I wasn’t even particularly upset about it. While waiting for the tour operator to arrange a boat for me, I took shelter in another boat and started taking photographs.
Eventually, another boat arrived to pick me up.
And guess what?
I was the only passenger on that boat!
The boat took me towards Pregnant Lady Island, where the rest of my group was waiting to board.

Unfortunately, because of the timing, I couldn’t get off and explore the island, but I did get to see it from the outside.
Sometimes travel doesn’t go according to plan, but those unexpected moments often become the stories you remember the most.
And this was definitely one of mine.
Cenang, Lunch & A Little Shopping
Instead of going straight back to my hotel, I decided to get off around Cenang and explore the area.
I browsed through some of the duty-free shops and then stopped at a restaurant for lunch.
I ordered a bowl of soupy noodles, which was exactly what I needed after spending so much time outdoors.
But my day wasn’t over yet.
I had one more major attraction on my list.
Langkawi Cable Car & Sky Bridge
I had booked my Langkawi Cable Car ticket through Klook.
The cable car is one of the must-do experiences in Langkawi, especially if you want to experience the island from above.

There was a long queue for the regular tickets, while the express lane cost almost twice as much.
Since I was travelling alone, something unexpected happened. The staff asked me to use the express queue because there was space available.
I wasn’t complaining!
There was just one small problem.
I am extremely scared of heights.
But I had come all the way to Langkawi, and there was no way I was going to let my fear stop me.
So, I took a deep breath and boarded the cable car. The gondola gradually climbed higher and higher, offering spectacular views of Langkawi below.
There are different stopping points along the cable car route. You can get off at the intermediate station before continuing further up.
The higher you go, the more dramatic the views become.
Sky Bridge
One of the main attractions at the top is the famous Langkawi Sky Bridge.
The bridge has also featured in Bollywood films, which made it even more exciting for me.
I had already purchased my Sky Bridge ticket. You can also opt for the SkyGlide, which takes you down towards the Sky Bridge. Otherwise, you need to walk down the stairs and make your way towards the bridge.

It was quite an experience, especially for someone who isn’t particularly comfortable with heights.
Unfortunately, the weather was quite foggy that day, so I couldn’t enjoy the panoramic views from the Sky Bridge as much as I had hoped.
But the journey itself was memorable.
While returning, I met another group of women from Kuala Lumpur. I ended up travelling with them in the gondola, and we had a lot of fun chatting and taking photographs.

And then came another lovely travel surprise.
One of the girls followed my YouTube channel, TravelWithNilz!
She asked if she could be featured in my Langkawi video.
Of course, I said yes.
These are the moments that make solo travel so special. You leave home alone, but somehow you keep meeting people and collecting stories along the way.
A Sudden Stop in the Sky
On the way down, something unexpected happened again.
The gondolas suddenly stopped for a few minutes, apparently because of the wind.
And there I was, suspended high above the ground.
As someone who is scared of heights, this was not exactly my favourite moment!
Thankfully, I wasn’t alone. Having the ladies with me made the whole experience much more fun and far less frightening.
If you are planning to visit the cable car and Sky Bridge, keep several hours aside. There is plenty to see and experience, and you can easily spend half a day in the area.
By the time I returned to my hotel, I was exhausted.
But I wasn’t ready to call it a day.
Cenang Beach After Sunset
After freshening up, I headed back to Cenang Beach. The atmosphere at Cenang changes completely in the evening.
During the day, it is all about the beach and water activities. At night, it becomes much more vibrant.
There are beachside shacks, restaurants, music and plenty of people enjoying the evening.
I also got to enjoy fireworks while sitting around the beach area. The food was reasonably priced, and the overall atmosphere was relaxed and fun.

It was the perfect way to end a very eventful day.
Day 3: Mangrove Tour, Kilim Geoforest Park & A Quiet Beach
My third morning in Langkawi began with something I had been looking forward to — breakfast at my hotel.
The previous night had been quite dramatic, though.
It had rained heavily, and the rain was so intense that I could barely sleep. At one point, the hut was literally shaking because of the weather.
Thankfully, the morning was much calmer.
I enjoyed a hearty breakfast before getting ready for my next adventure.

Mangrove Tour
I had booked a Mangrove Tour, and I wasn’t sure whether it would happen because it was raining heavily again.
Fortunately, the tour went ahead.
The cab picked us up and took us towards Tanjung, where we boarded our boat.
I was once again travelling with a group of strangers, this time including some Chinese tourists.
There were around 15 people on our boat, and we set off into the mangroves.
The Kilim Geoforest Park is one of the experiences I would strongly recommend adding to your Langkawi itinerary.
The landscape was completely different from what I had experienced at Cenang Beach.
Instead of open beaches and tourist crowds, we were surrounded by mangrove forests, limestone formations and waterways.
Monkey Feeding
The tour also included a stop where we could see monkeys. What fascinated me most was watching the monkeys swim.
I had never seen anything quite like it.
Visitors could also feed them, although I preferred simply watching them interact with their surroundings.

Eagle Watching
Of course, no trip around Langkawi would be complete without seeing its famous eagles.
The eagle-watching segment was another highlight of the tour.
Seeing the birds soaring above the water and mangrove forests was beautiful and gave me a completely different perspective of the island.
Bat Cave
As the name suggests, there were plenty of bats inside.
Walking into the cave and seeing so many bats hanging above us was quite an experience.
It felt like stepping into another world.
Lunch was also included in the tour package.
After lunch, we returned to the starting point.

The Photo I Had Been Waiting For
One of my favourite photographs from Langkawi was taken in front of Kilim Geoforest Park.
It might sound like just another travel photograph, but for me, it was much more than that.
I had seen pictures of the place before coming to Langkawi and had mentally added it to my checklist.
Standing there and finally taking that photograph felt like ticking off another dream from my travel list.
I felt grateful.
Sometimes travel isn’t just about sightseeing.
It is about standing in a place you once imagined yourself visiting and realising that you actually made it there.

Tengah Beach: The Quiet Side of Langkawi
After returning from the mangrove tour, I went back to the hotel and took a short nap.
I still had one more place I wanted to explore.
When booking accommodation in Langkawi, I had noticed that I could choose between areas such as Kuah, Cenang and Tengah.
I chose Cenang because I wanted to be close to the beach and stay somewhere lively.
But Tengah offered something completely different. It was quieter, calmer and far less crowded. I could actually get into the water without being surrounded by large crowds.
It was peaceful in a way that Cenang wasn’t.
Of course, Langkawi had one more surprise waiting for me.
Rain!
It started pouring again, forcing me to take shelter in a nearby restaurant.
Since I was already there, I decided to make the most of the situation and ordered some local food.
Eventually, I returned to Cenang, which was much more lively and happening.
A Little Pampering Before Leaving
By the third day, I was completely exhausted. I had spent three days walking, travelling, exploring beaches, taking boats, climbing stairs and riding cable cars.
So I decided I deserved a foot massage.
The massage was exactly what my tired feet needed.
After that, I also went for a hair wash because I had a flight to Penang the next day.
And that hair wash turned into another memorable little cultural experience.
The hair wash was done while I was sitting upright in a chair.
It was the first time I had experienced a hair wash like that!
It was such a simple thing, but these are the little differences you notice when travelling to another country.

After dinner at a nearby restaurant, I finally returned to my hotel.
Goodbye, Langkawi
The next day, I had a flight to Penang.
Before leaving, I couldn’t resist visiting Cenang Beach one last time.
I stood there for a while, taking in the beach, the sea and the atmosphere.
Three days had gone by so quickly.
When I arrived, Langkawi was a destination I had wanted to tick off my bucket list.
When I left, it had become much more than just another destination.
It had given me beautiful beaches, unexpected friendships, solo adventures, missed boats, cable cars that terrified me, rainstorms, delicious food, peaceful mornings, mangrove forests and countless photographs.
Most importantly, it reminded me why I love travelling.
Because sometimes the best travel memories aren’t the ones you carefully plan.
They are the ones that happen when you miss your boat, get stuck in a gondola, meet strangers who become friends, or find yourself standing in front of a place you had only ever seen in photographs.
Langkawi was everything I had imagined — and somehow, even more.
And with that, I bid adieu to this beautiful island and continued my Malaysian adventure towards my next destination — Penang.
