Road Trip to Ladakh: Where Adventure Meets the Supernatural

Going on a road trip to Ladakh was a milestone achievement for me — a journey filled with adventure, challenges, and unforgettable moments. Traveling in a convoy of about 15 cars, we started from Gurgaon, with our first stop at Sissu. After an exhausting 16-hour drive, we finally reached our hotel. Despite barely getting 4 hours of sleep, I was up and ready the next morning to continue our journey to Leh.

There were four of us in our vehicle, driven by my friend, as we navigated the rugged terrain ahead. The cold weather and high altitude posed significant challenges, especially for those with motion sickness. At an altitude of 15,000 ft at Bara-Lacha La and 11,500 ft at Leh, the thin air made breathing difficult for some, requiring oxygen support. A trip to Leh-Ladakh is certainly not for the faint-hearted.

Having grown up in a hill station and previously traveled to high-altitude places, I was confident I wouldn’t face motion sickness. But what happened to me on the way to Leh was beyond anything I’d ever experienced — it felt supernatural.

I was fine for most of the journey until suddenly, I wasn’t. It was late at night, and we were having a lighthearted conversation about ghost stories. Everything was going absolutely fine when out of nowhere, I felt an overwhelming wave of dizziness and paralysis. My body froze; I couldn’t move, open my eyes, or shake off the strange, hollow sensation in my stomach. It was unlike anything I’d ever felt before.

The car stopped at some point, and I instinctively stepped out, feeling an urgent need to vomit. However, I didn’t actually throw up — it was as though something unseen left my body when I tried. After that bizarre moment, I returned to the car and felt completely normal again. I have no logical explanation for what happened, but it left me convinced I had experienced something supernatural.

The rest of the trip went smoothly, even when I reached altitudes as high as almost 18,000 ft.

Moment of Achievement

This journey was more than just a road trip; it was an exploration of not only the breathtaking landscapes of Ladakh but also the mysteries of the unknown.
